Important information on psychological counseling
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
What is Psychological Counseling and When Should You Seek It?
Psychological counseling is professional support for personal, emotional, or interpersonal challenges. It helps to reflect on problems, develop new perspectives, and work on solutions. You should seek it when you find yourself in a stressful situation, experiencing recurring conflicts, or having difficulties with stress management, self-esteem, or decision-making. Unlike psychotherapy, counseling is aimed at people without clinical disorders or undiagnosed conditions, who still need professional support during certain life phases.
What Topics Can Psychological Counseling Help With?
Psychological counseling provides support in various areas of life, including:
- Life crises and change processes (e.g., separations, transitions, reorientation)
- Stress management and dealing with pressure
- Conflicts in relationships, family, or work
- Emotional challenges (e.g., grief, anxiety, uncertainties)
- Strengthening self-confidence and personal resources
Is Psychological Counseling the Same as Psychotherapy?
No, psychological counseling is not psychotherapy and does not replace it. While psychotherapy is focused on diagnosing and treating mental health disorders, psychological counseling is designed to support people in challenging life situations. If psychotherapy is necessary, I am happy to assist you in finding the appropriate help.
How Does the Counseling Process Work?
Each counseling session is individual and tailored to your personal concerns. In an initial conversation, we will clarify your topic, your expectations, and your goals. Whether you need short-term support or prefer long-term guidance, we will find the right approach for you together.
